Thailand is a fantastic country to travel to alone!
It has an infrastructure that is very traveler-friendly and it attracts a lot of people from all over the world. You will have absolutely no trouble meeting friends (if you so choose).
Crime against tourists is relatively low and Thai people are some of the friendliest on the planet.
It also has a lot to offer in terms of adventure (diving, jungle hiking etc), nightlife, beach life etc. A little bit of everything.
I had the time of my life there and you will to.
If it had been safe for a lone woman, it should be even safer for a lone man.
You may want to go to Philippines instead. There are lots of scenic places here. Try going to Boracay or Palawan. You’ll love the beaches there!
You see many backpackers traveling in groups or alone throughout the country. You got a good chance of meeting some on your way and joining them. For safety tips, don’t deal with drugs, don’t insult a Thai, and kept your wallet and passport in a safe place. Also beware of any Thai who just becomes too friendly to fast. Thai’s are friendly people but one who is just too friendly is a good sign he wants something from you. You can meet up with other backpackers at Khao San Road it’s has becoming the backpackers place to met and stay.
um well not really. laos is the BEST place to back pack
Yes, but women alone is unsafe.
If you’re a man you can do, just don’t show off your valuables stuff such as expensive camera, watch or jewelly, money, etc.
my basic rule of thumb is that if you are not the type to get into trouble or fights in bars where you live, you will not get in trouble here either… but you look a little sourpussy on your avatar - - When you come here smile alot - - Thai people love a nice smile - you may never want to leave.. come on over and enjoy yourself
Thailand is a great country with even greater people. There are a few bad apples just like anywhere else but the people are the nicest, friendliest, and most hospitable people I have ever met. Most of them welcome you to their country and will help you if you get lost or need help. Im 26 american and I once ran out of money out there and had no way to get access to my bank account and a random stranger there insisted on paying for my hotel when she heard me on the phone talking to the bank and she told me to pay her back when I could (I payed her back 2 days later). I was alone there for an entire month one time and travelled everywhere and I have to say that it is very safe. I had 3 guys my age try to get me in a car (they seemed like they wanted to beat me up or probably try to jump me for my wallet or something) but I was on an empty dirt road at 2am on the outskirts of town so that could of happened in my home town in america under those circumstances. All I did was walk into a nearby 711 and the lady there called a cab for me. So be cautious because its not disney land, but its definately alot safer than anywhere in usa or uk I would say. The main thing you got to be careful of is the transportation. If you are worried about safety, you should weigh your transportation options because some of the bus drivers there are suicidal and theres accidents with deaths all the time. Also alot of taxi/tuk tuk/motorbike taxi drivers will try to rip you off. Some do something as simple as highball the price to 5 times what it should cost, while others will tell you they are taking you somewhere and end up taking you somewhere different (I asked a driver to take me to this club, he took me to a different club that had no sign on it and said it was the club I was looking for, turns out that he gets paid to bring tourists there by the club themselves). Ive gotten on motorbike taxis and tuk tuks that have no meter and you agree on a price and when you get to the destination they lie and say a higher price was negotiated and if you dont pay they will obviously call the cops (So only choose taxis that have meters).
