Thailand is bracing for fresh political upheaval as the country’s supreme court prepares to deliver its verdict on the fortune of Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister ousted in a 2006 coup. The court is deciding whether to seize more than $2bn from Thaksin’s frozen assets. But in his stronghold in the north of the country, he the former PM is as popular as ever.
