Loi Krathong Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Loy Krathong (or Loi Kratong) is a festival celebrated annually throughout Thailand. It is held on the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. In the western calendar this usually falls in November. During the festival period many people will release a small raft fashioned from banana leaves and candles on a river as a thanksgiving to honour the Lord Buddha.
